MagiMask VR Goggles

Have you been looking for a quick and easy way to use VR goggles with almost any drone? The MagiMask VR goggles offer great resolution video using your phone by projecting the entire phone screen into each eye. This means

  • Any drone which uses a phone as a screen can use these goggles.
  • You do not need a VR mode on your flying app
  • You see the entire phone resolution in each eye

Great Resolution

As stated above the MagiMask VR goggles show the phone’s full resolution in each eye. This is the only VR set we know of that does this. This makes the image much clearer and you cannot see any pixels that some cheaper brands have.

However, the best thing about this is that you can use the VR set without the need of a VR mode on the app you are using. This means you can use the goggles with the DJI Fly app and therefore all the drones it supports. Without these goggles you would need a drone that supports third party apps (quite a few do not) and use an app such a Litchi which will cost £20 and invalidate your warranty.

Quality

The first think you notice when picking the MagiMask out of the box is the quality. The rough textiles covering them feel great to touch and gives them a modern finish. They feel solid and come nicely packaged in a soft draw string bag with along with a deck of cards and squidgy dice to help with VR modelling if you fancy something different.

Adapters

You will need an adapter to use these goggles to extend the cable between you phone and the remote. This Type C Male to USB 2.0 A Female OTG Data Cable Cord Adapter works great for the Mini 2 and Air 2 and should work with any remote with the Type C connection. For remotes with a micro USB like the Mavic Mini this adapter does the job.

How to Set Up Your MagiMask

There is an app to download which can help you set up your MagiMask, but I found it pretty straight forward. You unzip the back of the goggles and place your phone in the holder provided, then do the zip back up. Having two zips allows you to fit the phone charger through the whole they leave.

The other thing you will need is an adapter to connect the phone charger to the remote. I have found this Type C Male to USB 2.0 A Female OTG Data Cable Cord Adapter works great for the Mini 2 and Air 2 and should work with any remote with the Type C connection. For remotes with a micro USB like the Mavic Mini this adapter does the job. You plug the adapter into the remote, your phone charger into the adapter and your phone into the charger and you are ready to go. If you can connect your phone to your drone via WiFi you may not need an adapter at all.

The mask then fits comfortably over your head with the elastic straps and you can move the phone part of the visor backwards and forwards to suit depending on your phone. It is also worth noting the goggles fit over your glasses, however, as the lens’ are so close to your eyes, you probably won’t need glasses on too.
